Virtual Consumption

We eat with our mouths, but in this era, we indulge with all senses.

Digging into our social feed, expecting it to satisfy us completely. The feeling of ‘fullness’ we get from social media, in fact, renders us to be more distant than ever, more isolated than usual, and more depressed than before.

My series, Virtual Consumption, uses fairy tales to return us to our childhood morals, lessons, and stories. The use of these familiar tales of Alice in Wonderland, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White shows how strange and toxic mindless consumption of digital media can become. Understanding how these characters react and feel in modern context reflects our own reality of how we consume media everyday, and its rising concerns for people of all ages.
