Uncovering The Universe And The Worlds Within
“Gaze at the universe with a knowing eye. There’s beauty on every level—simplicity and regularity, even a kind of grace—from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest clusters of galaxies.
The universe is a masterpiece.”
– Carl Sagan
What is out there in the universe? Is it beauty? Is it wonder? Is it fear and uncertainty? We are but a speck of dust in this entire universe. There are so many things we have yet to discover, whether it is out there beyond Earth or even on our own planet.
Scientists describe the universe as a “beauty”. Why is the universe beautiful?
What makes the universe beautiful?
“There is beauty in understanding. We are participants of the universe,
“the cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be”
– Carl Sagan
Our lives are affected by the dynamics of the universe as it manifests within the biorhythms of our own bodies. How our body functions differ, based on the time of day, is an evident fact of this.
With this series, “Uncovering The Universe And The Worlds Within”, I imagine traveling to the unknown, and discovering the wonders the universe has yet to show us. Using bright, illuminating colours and soft textures, I integrate truth with imagination to depict lively illustrated environments rendering my belief in the beauty of the universe.
The first piece, “The World of Imagination”, depicts a version of myself, wondering about the universe. We have our own perspective on what reality is as shown right outside the window, yet I like to imagine the fantasies of the universe. The rabbit portrays me as I look around the room; I see a galaxy, the underwater, and the subatomic. In the second piece, “The World in Outer Space”, we see the beyond, the wonderful colours of the galaxy indiscernible to the naked eye, and the movement of the solar system circling around our bright star. In the third piece, “The Deep Sea World”, we pass through back to Earth and into the depths of the ocean, a place which takes up most of our planet and yet we know barely anything of its mysteriousness. We swim to the depths and see that nature comes to life. Delving deeper into our world, we enter the fourth piece, “The World of Sub-Atomic”, the realm of microorganisms and particles which make up the physical matter of the universe. The subatomic is like a universe inside our universe, a vast area in the realm of quantum.
This universe is so vast, I wonder when a time will come when we reach the depths of truth. The universe is like a living being and we are just a cell in its body. What do you think could be out there? What kind of new places would we be able to see? Imagine the various worlds awaiting to be discovered, and the knowledge and truth to be found and learned. What kind of worlds do you imagine existing in this vast universe?
I am an illustrator interested in creatures, and environment design, with a love for Asian culture, integrating both the traditional and futuristic aspects into the same world. Having a curiosity for these mysteries of the universe and what the future could entail, I create my own visual interpretations and fantasies of otherworldly places, in which unique creatures inhabit.
