Momento

My art often revolves around the topic of people. As I grew up, I struggled to relate to others, and in creating art, I found my own way to connect with people and make friends. What I’ve struggled with more, is losing the relationships I’ve built.

My series, Momento, explores memories of relationships I have lost. Each diorama explores a single defining and treasured memory I shared with someone who I am no longer close to. Though the relationships might be lost to time, they have left a deep impact on me. I keep these memories as souvenirs of times I cannot return to and can only look back on fondly. As each diorama has its own walls and borders, there is a sense of disconnect for the viewer. We can only look in from the outside. Just as we cannot change our pasts, we cannot enter this world we see. Rather these memories are something nostalgic and sentimental, yet unobtainable. It’s a snapshot of a moment frozen in time, to treasure and hold dear, to remember everyone who has touched us in our lives.
