Molly’s Journey

Digital art and Collage on Cork Board
24’ x 35.5’

Molly’s Journey mainly focuses on Molly, the main character of my comic specialization. Through these sequences, I aim to tell my story as a Thai student through Molly’s perspective as she grows and finds connections through food. After living alone for years in Canada, I have many memories connected to a particular food. From the soggy omelet on my first flight to Canada, the first time I try to make Pad See Eew in the dorm, stressing in front of a dental clinic, to finally finding my community and friends. Food has always been a big part of my journey, and it is what I aim to reflect through these sequences. Molly represents the collected memories and growth, both good and bad, I have gained from being an international student in Canada.

I have combined my story-telling and world-building skills to create this specific narrative, which is personally related to me. I adore heartwarming stories, but I also combine the solitude to complete the bittersweetness of life.

Molly’s Food Diary: Sick Days

Digital art, printed
5’ x 7.5’

Molly’s Food Diary is an original comic I created to convey a story of a Thai student in Canada. The 8-page comic contains a bitter-but-sweet tale of a girl dealing with loneliness, for she lives across the globe away from home. It also has adapted delicious food recipes I collected in the college dorm experience. Since this comic is about home and comfort, I illustrated these comics digitally in a Japanese manga style, something I have been familiar with throughout my childhood.

Synopsis:
Molly is an international student from Thailand. She comes to study alone in Canada, one
of the most frozen places on earth. She inevitably catches a cold. Lying in her bed, she is sick and hungry. She drags herself out of bed to discover an empty fridge! How will Molly find comfort and healing? She looks through the pantry and fridge for a familiar recipe from home.
