Artist Statement
Nostalgia
Nostalgia. It’s a feeling we all have felt. Nostalgia is built on memories, mainly the good ones. I am a person who tends to look back at the past and long to relive those precious memories. But obviously, I can’t go back in time, but can recreate them using art. I have created four 11 x 14 inches illustrations of stages of my life in a timeline. Infant, Child, Tween and Teen. Illustrated digitally with a traditionally constructed frame corresponding to each timeline of these artworks. Surrounding these illustrations are photos and memorabilia from the past that I have saved throughout the years. Sticky notes also are placed around my favourite memories with these people.
Looking back on my past and where I came from made me think about the great people and memories I’ve made. Each person in these illustrations and photos helped make these memories, and they all have shaped me into the person I am today. This project pushed me further into the past. I look through old photos and reconnect with people from my past to help with this final project. You being here and reading this is creating a memory for me to look back at as one of the best.
