The Inner Fears We Hide Within Us

My work explores the inner fears people potentially have and hide from others. Although these emotions are a normal part of being human, people fear this vulnerable part of them which is not commonly shown to the public eye. I came across these ideas from the multiple counselling sessions I’ve spent with my long-time physician, who became my therapist for the past couple of years. These sessions made me realize how badly I normalized hiding my inner fears as it felt hard to talk or share these emotions during counselling— even though I know this information will remain legally confidential. My goal is to interpret these inner fears while exploring visual metaphors to express my personal experience with hopes to bring a new outlook for viewers to see, understand, and potentially connect with. Each art piece shows an emotionally vulnerable state in different ways and conveys how often we keep these inner fears to ourselves in order for everything around us to feel “normal” whether it is to simply look better, not be judged, hide the mistakes we’ve made, etc.
