Artist Statement
“Dancing moth and candle”
The Persian phrase “Dancing Moth, and Candle” can be found in a variety of books and poems. The tale states that the moth is so in love with the candle that it would dance around the light until her wings burned. What I find most fascinating about this narrative is what we will all do for love. I received a lot of criticism for being cold while I was growing up. I try to hold back my emotions and primarily rely on my reasoning. I constantly looked for my light in the dark, leaving my heart behind. But my soul was lonely, and my chest felt empty. Eventually, every one of those feelings came flooding back, and suddenly I found myself drowning. It took me a while to figure out how to communicate my emotions. I can now follow my heart and the path is clear.
