Artist Statement
Sail Through Time
This four series narrative follows the stages of a boy’s life, depicting rediscovery of childhood imagination and artistic passion. In each piece, there is a reoccurring pirate ship that also evolves and changes throughout each stage. With his passion for pirate tales, the ship represents his love for fantasy and his desire for freedom in his endeavors. Ultimately, we see how this ship and rekindled flame inspires his granddaughter to go after her dreams of becoming an artist.
A common theme in my series is how our imagination is ageless and the importance of cultivating our imagination and creativity even as we grow into adults. It portrays inter-generational connections by showing the impact of sharing past passions and imagination can
have on the younger generation.
I cut out layers of my original digital artworks and arranged them into a pop out look within a shadowbox frame. This allows the viewer to experience and join the adventure.
I hope this series ignites a perpetual flame within artists of all ages, urging them to sustain their passions. Continue sharing your creations and stories with the world, in doing so you might unknowingly become a spark that starts or continues another’s journey regardless of their stages in life.
