Reminiscence
“Herkes baba olabilir ama babişko olmak herkesin harci değildir” This means: Everyone can be a father but being a daddy is not everyone’s cup of tea. This was a quote from a fridge magnet that I got for my dad on Father’s Day, he had it with him since 2008. The magnet now sits in his ‘memory box’ full of photos, drawings and everything that reminds him of me and my brother’s childhood.
All these happy memories started with this magnet, however later on that year my parents got divorced. My father and I had an emotional parting due to the distance between us.
I don’t really recall my childhood much since all my memories are fragmented, but our story nights were memorable.
No matter how exhausted or mentally tired he was, he would always make time to read Grimms’ Fairy Tales to me.
In this series, I find inspiration in the tender moments shared between me and my father during our story time sessions. I would like to contribute the series of our favorite tales to his memory box, in the hopes of reforging our memories together.
