Artist Statement
You say they are Tiger Mom, I’d like to say they are dream catchers

My artwork is inspired by the Book “Battle Hymn of Tiger Mother” written by Amy Chua. Although the book brings me a huge resonance, our society always promotes what is tiger mom never talks about how it affects the children. As I grew up in a traditional Asian family, I can deeply understand how the child feels and what does affect us under the tiger mom parenting. People may say tiger moms wanted their children to soar, but I will say they imprisoned our minds and killed our dreams, making us chase the dreams which the parents can’t complete at their young age.

我呢一系列作品係透過蔡美兒所寫嘅《虎媽的戰歌》作為創作靈感。 雖然我對呢一本書有好大共嗚感，但係我哋嘅社會大多數只係宣傳乜嘢係虎媽，從來冇提及過對小朋友有乜野影響。我作為一個喺非常之傳統嘅亞洲家庭長大嘅人，我非常之了解係虎媽教育之下小朋友嘅感受同影響有幾深遠。啲人可能會話虎媽只係希望佢哋嘅小朋友大個之後可以翱翔有一番成就，但係我想講佢哋係禁錮我嘅思想，將我哋嘅夢想殺死，強迫我哋去追父母細個時完成唔到嘅夢想。

Nowadays, we are living in a civilized society, we care about human life, education and rights. When we know all ethnicity lives matter, do we think about animals are also an ethnicity? We can see a lot of people buying a pet because they are cute or as a gift for their children, and they never learn how to take care of them properly and never think about what will happen after they pet them after they have the pet several months many problems come up, some animals die or being abandoned. In this project, I’m going to teach people some basic information about before they get a pet they should know how to care for and think about can they stay with them for their lifetime. My chosen name for the magazine is “Before Me”, it is a series of magazines to introduce different pet animals, in this vol. I’m doing rabbit.
