“The Art of Annoying”
“The Art of Annoying” is my way of celebrating the joy that comes from humor,
imagination, and playfulness in everyday life. Each piece in this collection illustrates
real, lighthearted moments with my brothers, from a playful chase over a “stolen”
pillow to dancing ridiculously in front of the TV to block it, and even talking through
plushies. These scenes capture the laughter and creativity that bring us closer,
reminding me of how important these qualities are at every stage of life.
Now that I’m living in Toronto and far away from them, I find myself cherishing these
shared moments even more. Reflecting on them, I realize that our most memorable
and meaningful connections often happened in the simplest, silliest interactions, not
during serious conversations, but when I would flick their bedroom lights on and off
just to annoy them, or walk into my room only to find both of them sprawled on my
bed for no apparent reason. Whether I’m stealing their socks or they’re hiding my
phone, it’s these playful exchanges that remind me I’m not alone, that I’m loved.
Even the smallest of these ridiculous moments holds a warmth and joy that stays
with me, and through this collection, I hope to share that sense of connection with
others.
