Artist Statement

Storytelling through the Art.

Storytelling through art is my specialty. This is what I show to the audience. Inspired by cinematography and the cultural and traditional aspects of people’s daily lives, both past, and present. I love to illustrate adventures, historical scenes, literature, and screenplays. I love to draw storyboards and make my artwork look like a scene, frozen in time. What kind of reaction a person can have, extreme, sad, mad, happy moments. I am interested in understanding why people do this or that, what is their motivation, why are their reactions so different? I examine this in my artwork, I enjoy putting people in a fantasy world through my art. I investigate the relationship between historical and modern events. Including hollow elements that reflect fantastic and realistic aspects of the human experience.

Every one of my artworks is a strong representation of my view. My art expresses stories as a window into experiences that reflect human nature.

My Series project is named Urban Life. Captures the culture of different time periods.

My first illustration is of the 1890s. When I started this illustration, I gathered file with references. What kind of architecture was popular in the city, what kind of clothing was worn by the youth of the city, what were the values of the time? Inspired by nature Art Nouveau, characterized by long Mediterranean miniature lines and forms, resembling plants. A more extravagant, ornamental style was preferred. I wanted to give an impression of the 1890s.

My second illustration is of the 1920s. The great jazz era, the roaring 20s. The decade when sound was introduced to cinematography, known at the time as ‘talkies’. I tried to give the overall mood of the 1920s. Megapolises were popping up like mushrooms. Skyscrapers were beginning to be built, the materials being used as metal and glass to achieve the art deco style. I tried to show the combination of the sound of music, heartbeats, and city life energy in my artwork.

My third illustration is of the 1970s. The hippie movement. Hippies brought a new age of eastern spiritualism and peace. New colors, tones, shapes, style of dress, style of life, the new style of social connection. Never was life as borderless as it was in the 1970s. A new color palette prioritized eastern traditional colors. Freedom, peace, and love – were the main idea of the 1970s.

And the fourth illustration is of the 1990s. The grunge movement. New style, new colors. That time represented by the movement that made borders between social levels almost invisible. The neon color’s palette of the 1990s is a symbol of freedom of expression.

I work in a realistic style but I love to experiment. To express my emotions and create a feeling, an overall mood to convey to the viewer. I love to mix my art media, ink, acrylic, watercolor, collage, etc. All these forms of media can have a place in one artwork. Creating an experience with media in illustration. I also work in traditional media (painting, drawing, printmaking and digital art). I specialize in narrative illustration including background illustration and design, storyboarding, and murals.
